Craig Van Ess served affluent clients and their families as their Personal Chief Financial and Legal Counsel for nearly 16 years in Fifth Third Bank’s Wealth Management Group. During his tenure with Fifth Third, he was consistently a top two producer in the entire Bancorp year in and year out. Prior to joining Fifth Third, he managed the Family Wealth Planning and Compliance Practice at Arthur Andersen, LLP for nearly 10 years. And, prior to that, he practiced law in the estate planning, tax planning, and commercial litigation areas.

Craig is licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan. He is a licensed Life Insurance Producer and licensed Variable Annuity Producer. He also has his Series 7 and Series 66 Securities Licenses.

Craig obtained his Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law, his Masters of Science in Taxation from Grand Valley State University, and his Bachelors in Business Administration from Aquinas College.

Craig has also served as a Director on the Boards of several companies including Meridian Automotive Systems, Inc., American Autocoat, LLC, Habitat for Humanity of Kent County, Inc., and Porter Hills Presbyterian Retirement Village.

Craig has received a number of awards for his service to the community including the AIM Lifetime Achievement Award, Habitat for Humanity’s “Exceptional Leader Award,” the American Red Cross Hero Award, Applebee’s Neighborhood Hometown Hero Award, and the National Philanthropy Day Honoree Award.

Craig has competed in 16 Ironman triathlons and has utilized these Ironman races as fundraisers for Habitat for Humanity. In doing so, Craig has raised over $1 million for Habitat, an amount which equates to 23 homes for families who might not have otherwise been able to afford a home.
